Event Overview: The SBIR Road Tour is a national outreach effort to convey the nondilutive technology funding opportunity provided through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Federal and state program managers representing the $2.5 billion in early-stage funding have been invited to attend a series of events alongside technology entrepreneurs and innovation supporters from across the United States.

About SBIR: The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is a highly competitive program that encourages domestic small businesses to engage in federal research/research and development that has the potential for commercialization. Through a competitive awards-based program, SBIR enables small businesses to explore their technological potential and provides the incentive to profit from its commercialization. By including qualified small businesses in the nation’s R&D arena, high-tech innovation is stimulated and the United States gains entrepreneurial spirit as it meets its specific research and development needs.

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) National SBIR Road Tour is coming to New Haven, Connecticut, on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, giving small businesses the coveted opportunity to learn firsthand about America’s largest seed fund. SBA leads the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, where the federal government awards over $2.5 billion annually to small businesses developing groundbreaking, high-risk technologies while taking no equity.

Program managers from over 11 federal agencies will conduct one-on-one meetings with attendees, participate in targeted panels and share insights into how their agencies make funding decisions. The SBIR/STTR programs fund a wide variety of technology areas, including unmanned systems, advanced materials, health, cyber security, defense and more.
