Rocky Hill, Conn. – April 25, 2018 – CTNext, Connecticut’s go-to resource for entrepreneurial support, today announced the winners of the Entrepreneur Innovation Awards (EIA), held this past Saturday alongside the Westport Maker Faire in Westport.

In all, CTNext awarded $44,000 in cash prizes to the following entrants:

  • 3Dux/design ($10,000): Testing a STEAM platform that incorporates sustainable and repurposed materials into the product, encouraging educational and imaginative play.
  • B2 Products ($10,000): Creating a Rapid Patient Mover, which enables rescuers to support a patient from underneath the body without the need to lift or roll the person.
  • Eir Medical Devices ($12,000): Developing a convenient, affordable and swift rheometer, a device to measure the viscosity of complex fluids such as oil, ink and blood.
  • Phood ($10,000): Creating food-waste tracking and analytics software to provide food service professionals with actionable insights to help reduce food-waste volume.
  • Sol Wellness ($2,000): Developing an artificial intelligence–enabled algorithm that aggregates data from facial, linguistic and response-time analysis to determine changes in behavior over time.

“It was another successful EIA event, with the unique additional feature of having been held alongside the Westport Maker Faire, which certainly added to the environment,” said Glendowlyn Thames, executive director of CTNext. “All contestants presented some very compelling and eye-opening, innovative ideas. We congratulate the winners and thank our panel of judges, who volunteered their time to thoughtfully evaluate the presentations.”

The five companies, all of which are Connecticut-based, were among eight startups that presented their project ideas to a panel of judges for an opportunity to secure $10,000 awards to help support business growth. 3Dux/design, B2 Products and Phood each won $10,000. Eir Medical Devices won both a $10,000 prize and the $2,000 Judges’ Favorite, while Sol Wellness took home the $2,000 Crowd Favorite award.
