We're excited to have Iain Klugman, CEO and President of Communitech, join us on March 4, at the Omni Hotel in New Haven from 9-12. Iain's leadership has been instrumental in developing one of the world's most successful startup ecosystems, in Waterloo, Ontario. Over the last few years alone, Communitech has helped companies raise more than $333m in investments. In 2011 their ecosystem averaged one new company launch per day. All this with a population base of 500,000. Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, The Huffington Post, and the New York Times have all recently covered Iain's work. Read More about Iain.
An unConference is a participant-driven session, designed to facilitate meaningful, action-oriented dialogue on growing innovative companies and an entrepreneurial culture in Connecticut. Participants propose topics they wish to discuss with other attendees, and then gather in pre-defined areas to engage with other attendees interested in that topic. The Friday evening pitch session at Startup Weekends use an unConference model. The unConference session will inform the evolution of our Ecosystem and information will be posted on line to continue the conversation.
Last fall Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced the Innovation Ecosystem, a first-of-its-kind initiative to enhance the quality of support for high potential early stage companies, and strengthen collaboration between key innovation stakeholders. Underlying this effort is the belief that our continued ability to help companies thrive in Connecticut depends on finding new and better ways to work together. Our global competitiveness is at stake.
